Open Mike Eagle drops a video for “Every Single Thing”

A track from his 2018 project, ‘What Happens When I Try to Relax.’

Open Mike Eagle has dropped a thought-provoking music video for “Every Single Thing.”

In his latest video—directed by Spencer Garland— the rapper/comedian enlists an actor to play Michel, the clip’s protagonist who seems to be going through a hard time. Scenes of Michel are split between him making music and setting up a bonfire as he prepares to get rid of certain symbolic items from his life, from a doll that symbolizes his own blackness to a cross that represents religion. But one thing he hesitates to burn is his MIDI controller because, as the video explains, “music gave [him] meaning back.”

“Every Single Thing” is the second track from Eagle’s 2018 release, What Happens When I Try to Relax, to get the visual treatment, following “Microfiche.”
