Open Mike Eagle has announced his new album Anime, Trauma and Divorce with “Bucciarati,” a new collaboration with Kari Faux.
The song’s title is a reference to Bruno Bucciarati, a mobster from the anime series JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure. Mike bares his emotions on the frank song, while Faux handles the chorus: “Sorry to call you in, I needed a helping hand / Broken the zip again, broken the zip again / Trying to fill up my bag to carry a couple grand.”
The track will appear on his upcoming album, Anime, Trauma and Divorce, due out October 16. The record will also feature collabs with Lil A$e and Video Dave, as well as the previously released singles “I’m a Joestar (Black Power Fantasy)” and “The Edge of New Clothes.”
In a press statement, Mike detailed how the album was conceived: “Before the world went to shit I was already in the middle of a few personal crises. Shit had gone haywire personally and professionally, and my therapist had to remind me that I have an outlet to process some of my shit in rap music. So I made a bunch of painful rap songs and [producer] Jacknife Lee was kind enough to help me make good music out of them.”
Anime, Trauma and Divorce will be Mike’s first solo-full-length since 2017’s Brick Body Kids Still Daydream. While you wait for the LP to drop, listen to “Bucciarati” below:
