Titled The Marathon Don’t Stop: The Life and Times of Nipsey Hussle, the biography is written by Rob Kenner, the founding editor of VIBE, and will be published by Atria Books. The book will feature comprehensive reporting on Hussle’s decade-long career and accomplishments, including exclusive interviews with the Los Angeles rapper’s close friends and family.
In an interview with Complex, Kenner revealed that he’d always wanted to write a book about Hussle but the rapper’s untimely death earlier this year pushed him to get the project started. “The events of March 31 left me stunned just like the rest of those who cared about him,” Kenner said. “Since that time, there has been a tremendous outpouring of love for him around the world, but also a fair amount of misinformation and media spin from forces that underestimated him or saw him as a threat. I wanted to do my part to help set the record straight.”
Kenner added that The Marathon Don’t Stop isn’t an authorized biography, and therefore he plans to donate a portion of the proceeds from the book to Hussle’s estate. The book arrives March 24, 2020.
Hussle died on March 31 this year. He was gunned down in front of his store, Marathon Clothing, on Slauson Avenue in LA. In July, The New York Times reported that the rapper was under posthumous investigation by the Los Angeles Police Department for alleged gang associations.
Hussle’s alleged killer Eric Holder previously pleaded not guilty to the four crimes he is charged with, including a single count of murder and one count of firearm possession.
