Nicki Minaj shares update on new album

She also shared a preview of an upcoming track.

It looks like Nicki Minaj is officially out of retirement. During a live Q&A session at Pollstar Live conference on Wednesday, the rapper gave fans an update about the follow-up to 2018’s Queen.

Speaking to entertainment executive Irving Azoff, who is also her manager, Minaj said that she’s keeping the sound of her upcoming album a surprise. “I feel like albums should be a surprise, sonically, what people can expect,” she told Azoff. “But they can expect to feel like, okay, Nicki’s in a good place. That’s what I’ll say about that.”

The rapper also confirmed that she’s got a new song on the way, though it won’t be a single plucked from her new record. “Let me make that clear… It’s not my single, because the single will be launched with the visual. This is a setup song with no video. Please don’t kill me, y’all. You guys asked me to put it out—don’t forget!” she said. Minaj later teased that the track will drop as soon as Friday.

Towards the end of the Q&A session, Minaj played a snippet of her new song titled “Yikes,” which she previewed on her Instagram earlier this week. “Somebody ’bout to get poked up, go call the tow truck / All that talkin’ out your neck just might get your throat cut,” she rhymes over a booming trap production.

While you wait for it to drop, check out a snippet of it below:
