Last weekend, Nicki Minaj took to the stage of SNL to close off the show’s season finale with a lively performance of her latest single, “Chun-Li.” The track’s taken from her upcoming fourth studio release, Queen, which is due June 15.
Her stage featured an elaborate Chinese-themed set, complete with Asian dancers dressed as ninjas and a Chinese temple. Minaj even channeled her inner Chun-Li as she donned a black and gold qipao-inspired latex outfit and the video game character’s trademark hair buns.
Although the rapper showed off her impressive vocals and dancing, the performance caused quite a stir on social media as viewers argued that Minaj was appropriating Asian culture.
