Better late than never: Migos and DJ Mustard have finally come together to deliver their first-ever collab, “Pure Water.”
The track features all the hallmarks of a Mustard standard. It’s got a danceable, party-ready beat and catchy vocal hooks that’ll stick in your head all day. Quavo, Offset and Takeoff also come through with their verses, taking turns to spit rapid-fire lines about—what else?—their wealth and women.
In an interview with Zane Lowe of Beats 1, Mustard explained that the song initially began as a collaboration between him and Quavo. “Then I was like, ‘No, I gotta get the whole gang on here,’” he said. “We worked our way to get everyone on there […] I knew what it was when I first heard it.”
There’s no official word if “Pure Water” will be part of a longer project, but Mustard did reveal he’s got plenty of new songs in the vault. “I got something crazy with Future. I got something crazy with 21 [Savage]. I got something crazy with Meek [Mill],” he said. “Obviously, Ty [Dolla $ign] and YG and my normal people that I work with, but I got some other people too that’s just like, ‘Whoa, I didn’t even think that you would even do that.”
“We’re definitely going for the gusto this whole year,” Mustard added.
