Mick Jenkins ups the hype with “Padded Locks,” “Barcelona” video

Days before he finally drops ‘Pieces of a Man.’

Mick Jenkins is nothing if not generous. In the past months, he’s dropped a series of fiery loosies—see “Bruce Banner” and “What am I to Do”—and kept the quality music going as he turned to the promotion of his new album, Pieces of a Man, out this Friday.

Following last week’s video for “Understood” is a visual that melds two new songs: “Padded Locks” and “Barcelona.” As always, the Chicagoan chases rhyme with rhyme, spiking his knotty wordplay with don’t-fuck-with-me attitude. Though the former is produced by Kaytranada, and the latter by Nissim, they blend seamlessly—further testament to Jenkins’ meticulous taste for beats.

With its panoramic city shots and film footage aesthetics, this video is nothing but a vibe, though it still holds something back: Ghostface Killah’s guest verse on “Padded Locks,” which you can hear if you stream the song here.
