Megan Thee Stallion, Lil Baby and more perform at AMAs 2020

The annual American Music Awards returned yesterday, featuring live and pre-recorded performances from a slew of hip hop acts including Megan Thee Stallion, Lil Baby, Machine Gun Kelly and more.

Up-and-coming rappers 24kGoldn and Iann Dior made their AMAs debut with their viral TikTok hit “Mood,” performing on a trippy set decorated with multiple doors and windows. MGK, on the other hand, brought the audience back in time to ‘Downfall High’ where he performed two tracks from Tickets to My Downfall: “Bloody Valentine” and “My Ex’s Best Friend.”

Meanwhile, Doja Cat picked up several awards, including Best New Artist of the Year and Favorite Female Artist for Soul/R&B. Although she didn’t perform any of her own songs, the rapper later joined Bebe Rexha on stage for a joint performance of their latest collab, “Baby, I’m Jealous.”

Other highlights included a throwback set by Bell Biv DeVoe and a somber performance by Lil Baby. The latter performed “Emotionally Scarred,” a cut from the deluxe edition of his My Turn album. At the end of his performance, the Atlanta rapper reminded fans to “protect your mental health.”

The ceremony ended off on a high note with a show-stopping performance from Hot Girl Meg, who made the debut live performance of her newest single, “Body.” Accompanied by a troupe of dancers, the Houston rapper effortlessly twerked and rapped to the Lil Ju-produced beat. Meg later went on to accept the award for Favorite Song for Rap / Hip Hop for her “WAP” collab with Cardi B.

“Thank you everybody, from me and Cardi,” Megan said during her speech. “Thank you mama, I know you watching over me. And thank you grandma for watching from home!”
