Maxo Kream shares new single and video, “Local Joker”

The rapper said the song “explains where I’m at in my life right now.”

Maxo Kream has returned with his first solo single of the year, “Local Joker.”

Over a laid-back instrumental co-produced by Kal Banx and Mario Luciano, the Texas native raps about his humble beginnings and climb to the top.

“‘Local Joker’ explains where I’m at in my life right now,” Maxo said in a press statement. “I love Houston, I’m from Houston. My merch is Houston focused. My music has a strong Houston influence—everything is Houston, it’s local. You can catch me in any part of Houston with the local jokers—but at the same time I’m not a local joker because I’ve grown and expanded the territory that I touch. But home will always be home—and that’s Houston.”

“Local Joker” also got a video directed by NotAChance that includes several nods to Maxo’s clothing company, Persona. Maxo launched the brand with his brother Money-Du Kream, who was shot and killed in Los Angeles last March. Maxo previously told Complex he’s continued the brand as a tribute to his late brother.

“One of the things he told me before he passed away was to get the Persona brand going, that’s all he wanted. In honor of him, I’m keeping it alive,” he said.

Maxo is currently readying his next project, which will be the follow-up to 2019’s Brandon Banks. Watch the video for his new single, “Local Joker,” below.
