Matt Muse shares empowering new single, “Myself”

Featuring Mon’Aerie and Pivot Gang’s Joseph Chilliams.

Chicago up-and-comer Matt Muse has dropped a new single titled “Myself,” featuring Chicago singer Mon’Aerie and Pivot Gang member Joseph Chilliams. It’ll appear on his upcoming EP, Love & Nappyness.

Featuring a groovy Timmy V-produced beat and retro synths, the song is a funky declaration of self-love. “I don’t wanna hurt you baby, but I’ve been thinking to myself / How I’m gon’ love you baby, if I don’t even love myself,” Muse rap-sings on the opening. Mon’Aerie croons soulfully in the background, and Chilliams jumps in on the second verse.

“Myself” previews Muse’s Love & Nappyness EP, which is due out next week. “If I spend more time intentionally loving myself, and acknowledging my flaws, I will be more equipped to love a partner and all others,” the rapper explained of the song’s message in a press statement.

The South Side artist burst onto the scene last year with his debut album, Nappy Talk. He’s also currently a teaching artist at Young Chicago Authors, the youth literary arts organization that has helped launch the careers of Chance the Rapper, Noname, Saba and more.
