Machine Gun Kelly taps blackbear for “My Ex’s Best Friend”

MGK’s ‘Tickets to My Downfall’ album is due next month.

Machine Gun Kelly has recruited blackbear for “My Ex’s Best Friend,” the latest track from his forthcoming pop-punk album, Tickets to My Downfall.

On the new single, which features production by Blink-182’s Travis Barker, SlimXX and BazeXX, the Cleveland-bred rapper-turned-rocker croons about a messy break-up that involves his “ex’s best friend.” He sings, “You walked in my life at 2am / ’Cause my boy’s new girl is your best friend / Act like you don’t see me, we’ll play pretend.”

Around the one-minute mark, blackbear hops in with a similar story: “First off, I’m not sorry, I won’t apologize to nobody / You play like I’m invisible, girl, don’t act like you ain’t saw me / Last year was a mess and how I acted was beyond me.”

The pair have collaborated on several songs to date: 2012’s “End of the Road,” “Shoot ’Em Down” by MOD SUN and on blackbear’s own “e.z.”

Kelly has been readying his album Tickets to My Downfall over the past few months, previewing it with tracks like “Bloody Valentine” and “Concert for Aliens.” The record is out September 25.
