Lorde accuses Kanye West, Kid Cudi of ripping off her set design

“Don’t steal—not from women or anyone else—not in 2018 or ever.”

Lorde has a bone to pick with Kanye West and Kid Cudi. The pop star took to Instagram to accuse the duo of “stealing” an element of her stage design: a floating glass tank.

Ye and Cudi, who are currently on tour as Kids See Ghosts, unveiled said tank at Camp Flog Gnaw festival this past weekend. The tank bears an uncanny resemblance to the one Lorde co-designed with stage designer Es Devlin in 2017 and debuted at her Coachella performance that year:

“I’m proud of the work I do and it’s flattering when other artists feel inspired by it, to the extent that they choose to try it on themselves,” she wrote in posts to her Instagram Story. “But don’t steal—not from women or anyone else—not in 2018 or ever.”

The internet didn’t respond kindly to Lorde’s accusation. People started posting images of other artists also performing in a glass tank, Justin Bieber, A$AP Rocky and Kendrick Lamar among them.

But for all we know, all these musicians might have simply ripped off David Blaine and his well-publicized 2003 stunt: The magician endured six weeks, without food and water, in a transparent box that dangled over the Thames in London.
