Little Brother return with first album in nine years, ‘May the Lord Watch’

With production work from Khrysis, Focus and Nottz.

Here’s a surprise for Little Brother fans: The critically acclaimed rap group have returned with a brand-new studio album titled May the Lord Watch, their first in over nine years.

Members Phonte and Big Pooh reunite on the ambitious 15-track record, albeit without the involvement of founding member 9th Wonder. The LP features production from Khrysis, Nottz and Focus, as well as vocal contributions from Joe Scudda, Questlove, Roy Lee and more.

“[The album title] is taken from a closing prayer most commonly heard at the end of church services or funerals: ‘May the Lord watch between you and me, while we’re absent, one from another,’” Phonte explained in a press release. “To me, it symbolizes the way in which me and [Big] Pooh’s brotherhood has matured and evolved over the years. We’ve always made music together, but the creation of this record was the first time we really took care of each other and had each other’s backs at every turn.”
