Yo Gotti has dropped “Recession Proof,” his first single as a fully independent artist.
Released on his own Inevitable II Records, “Recession Proof” is about having the “demand, skills and hustle” to come out on top even during “hard economic times,” according to a statement on Yo Gotti’s Instagram. In a separate post, the rapper said that his new track was dedicated to “all my true Hustlers that’s [gonna] figure it out no matter what the fuck the circumstances are.”
Over a smooth Tay Keith-produced beat, Yo Gotti boasts how he’s doing just fine during the pandemic. “I’m a real hustler, I’m recession-proof / I know how to make the paper then stack it too / I’m a real hustler, I know what to do,” he spits on the chorus.
Yo Gotti ended his contract with longtime label Epic Records in February after releasing his ninth studio album Untrapped. “A lot of things I’d never accomplished before, I accomplished with Epic,” the rapper had said during an interview with Billboard. “[But] I don’t think of [the contract ending] as a bad experience at all.”
