Spillage Village continue to build anticipation for their upcoming album, Spilligion, with a brand-new song called “Hapi.” It features vocals from Mereba, EarthGang’s Olu and Benji, as well as a guest appearance from Dungeon Family’s Big Rube.
On the track, produced by Olu and Benji, each musician is given their chance to shine on the verses, while Olu and Mereba helm the soulful chorus. “Gunshots ringin’ in my hood / It sounds so off-beat / I’m prayin’ they don’t off me / I promise I’d change it if I could,” the duo harmonize.
The song ends with a solemn spoken work outro by Rube: “Your freedom is beyond anyone outside of yourself’s controllin’ / It can’t be bought and sold, given away, or even stolen / It’s a divine entitlement, vital to the nourishment of the soul.”
Along with the single, Spillage Village also revealed the list of collaborators for Spilligion. The 12-track project will feature contributions from Chance the Rapper, Ari Lennox, Buddy, Masego and Lucky Daye, and is set to be released on September 25. The group hinted at the album with “End of Daze” in June, and officially announced the record earlier this month with “Baptize.”
