Up-and-coming rapper Lil Skies surprised-released his debut album, Shelby, last Friday.
In a press statement to Billboard, the Pennsylvania artist described the LP as his “first real project.” Named after his mother, the album collects 14 songs that address fame, heartbreak and mental health. Tracks like “Through the Motions” and “Highs and Lows” discuss Lil Skies’ struggle to maintain long-distance romantic relationships, while braggadocious anthems such as “Mansion” and “Flooded” flaunt the rapper’s luxurious new lifestyle.
Gucci Mane, Gunna and frequent collaborator Landon Cube also appear on Shelby. The latter reunites with Lil Skies on “Nowadays Pt 2,” the sequel to their 2017 collab, “Nowadays.”
