clipping. have announced a new album, Visions of Bodies Being Burned, with the single “Say the Name.”
On the ominous track, which features a sample of Geto Boys’ “Mind Playing Tricks On Me,” frontman Daveed Diggs raps about a woman’s tragic love story. “The further she learned to trust him, the merger of love and lust / And she servin’ it all up just ’cause he hold her when he would bust / Until nine months later with a stomach full of Devil, baby / She startin’ to think it’s time to pump the brakes,” Diggs spits.
The upcoming Visions of Bodies Being Burned will be the sequel to 2019’s There Existed an Addiction to Blood. It is also the second installment in the group’s “sociopolitical horrorcore” series, according to the FADER.
clipping. also summarized up their intentions for the album with a quote from Scream 2: “There are certain rules that one must abide by in order to create a successful sequel. Number one: the body count is always bigger. Number two: the death scenes are always much more elaborate—more blood, more gore. Carnage candy. And number three: never, ever, under any circumstances, assume the killer is dead.”
Earlier this year, the group marked Juneteenth with “Chapter 319” and a re-release of their 2014 track, “Knees on the Ground.” Last December, the trio dropped their The Deep EP, which featured an appearance from Shabazz Palaces.
Visions of Bodies Being Burned is due out October 23 via Sub Pop. Listen to “Say the Name” below:
