Lil Yachty has shared his newest mixtape, Michigan Boy Boat.
The 14-song effort enlists a variety of Michigan-born rappers, including Detroit and Flint natives Tee Grizzley, Sada Baby, Babyface Ray, Louis Ray, Baby Smoove, Veeze, Icewear Vezzo and more. The Atlanta artist’s love for the Wolverine State and its talent hasn’t come out of nowhere—in February, Yachty dropped a video for “Royal Rumble” that spotlit artists from the Michigan scene.
Alongside the tape, Yachty also released a new episode of his video series The Boat Show that captures the making of Michigan Boy Boat.
“I found a love for Michigan; you know what I’m saying? The city [of Detroit] itself is just a vibe that’s unmatched,” he says at the start of the 17-minute video. “I established this relationship. I was a fan of all these guys all throughout Michigan, not just Detroit. I’m tryna put them on a pedestal—give ’em the platform they may not have had before.”
Michigan Boy Boat follows Yachty’s Lil Boat 3 album, which got a deluxe edition called Lil Boat 3.5 in November. Just days before dropping the new tape, Yachty dropped a video for a track called “Cortex”—which does not appear on Michigan Boy Boat—and said he was working on “4-5 projects.”
Yachty has also dropped a video for mixtape cut “Stunt Double” featuring Rio Da Yung OG. It ends with a call to free Rio, who is currently serving a jail sentence on drug-related charges. Watch the laid-back duo in the clip here:
