Lil Pump will not in fact deliver Harvard’s commencement speech

Well, he’s a ‘Harverd Dropout’ after all.

Looks like Lil Pump will not be delivering the 2019 commencement speech at Harvard University after all.

A PR representative from the Ivy League institution confirmed to Consequence of Sound that the “Gucci Gang” rapper will not be “speaking at any commencement-related or other official University events.” The rep also asserted that Angela Merkel, the present Chancellor of Germany, will be the ceremony’s official speaker come May 30.

Harvard issued the official statement following earlier claims by Pump and his team at Warner Bros Records, which stated the rapper had been “handpicked” by the university to be “its youngest commencement speaker in history” due to his “status at the forefront of the culture and position as a voice for the youth,” Esquire noted.

It seems to have been nothing more than a promotional stunt for the rapper’s new album, Harverd Dropout, which arrived last Friday.

However, Pump will still be making a Harvard appearance soon. The rapper is due to come on WHRB Harvard Radio, a student-run radio program, for a live Q&A and interview session later this Thursday. More info about the event here.
