Lil Nas X finally drops “Montero (Call Me By Your Name)”

The rapper faces off against the Devil in the accompanying visual.

Lil Nas X has finally released his long-teased single, “Montero (Call Me By Your Name).”

The rapper introduces fans to the biblical-inspired world of Montero, after his real name Montero Lamar Hill, in the fantastical visual. It includes scenes that reference the story of Adam and Eve and ancient Greek mythology—as well as a lap dance with the Devil.

“Call me when you want, call me when you need / Call me in the morning, I’ll be on the way / Call me when you want, call me when you need / Call me out by your name, I’ll be on the way like,” he sings on the hypnotizing chorus.

Alongside the release of “Montero (Call Me By Your Name),” Nas X also shared a letter addressed to his teenage self on Twitter. “Dear 14-year-old Montero, I wrote a song with our name in it. It’s about a guy I met last summer,” he wrote. “I know we promised to never come out publicly, I know we promised to never be ‘that’ type of gay person, I know we promised to die with the secret, but this will open doors for many other queer people to simply exist.”

“Montero (Call Me By Your Name)” is the rapper’s first release of 2021, following his Christmas-inspired song “Holiday.” The new single arrives over eight months after he first teased it on Twitter in July 2020.
