Let Spillage Village take you to church in “Hapi” video

The spiritual track, featuring Big Rube, appears on the group’s ‘Spilligion’ LP.

Spillage Village have unveiled a video for “Hapi,” featuring Big Rube, a cut from their first major label album Spilligion.

Spilligion featured several biblical references and the “Hapi” clip continues the record’s aesthetic. Directed by Mac Grant and Chad Tennies, the visual follows Mereba, Johnny Venus, Benji and Rube as they escape to a forest where a group of people are performing a baptism.

“Some say, life is just a hell / And it’s here we dwell until we’re truly, truly, truly free / Some say, projects and ghettos and seeds that will never grow / All berries to see,” Johnny Venus of EarthGang spits. “I dream of a world where love is the rule / Where hearts walk two by two.”

Big Rube plays a preacher in the video and appears at the end to deliver his spoken word outro. “Your freedom is beyond anyone outside of yourself’s controllin’ / It can’t be bought and sold, given away, or even stolen / It’s a divine entitlement, vital to the nourishment of the soul.”

Besides Big Rube, Spillage Village’s Spilligion album also includes collaborations with Chance the Rapper, Ari Lennox, Lucky Daye and more. Other tracks on the album include “Baptize” and “End of Daze.”
