Kota the Friend celebrates his birthday with new song, “Dragon”

The rapper’s first release since his ‘Everything’ album.

Kota the Friend has released a new song called “Dragon” in celebration of his 28th birthday last week.

On the soothing track, which features a guitar-driven instrumental, the Brooklyn rapper shows gratitude to his newfound love. “Life’s short, don’t waste time / Got a good girl, gotta make time / Gotta throw the ego to the wayside / Show love, you ain’t gotta say why, naw,” he spits.

In an Instagram post, Kota reflected on his year. “In my 27th year of life I travelled the world with my music, got kicked out of my apartment, bought a car, fixed my credit, bought two homes, fell in love and dropped 2 albums,” he wrote. “Thank Jah for the blessings. I have more than I could ever ask for at 28 years old. All I feel is gratitude.”

In a separate post, the rapper also promised more music coming next month, saying that his “hiatus [is] officially over.” Earlier this year, he released the album Everything, which featured collaborations with Joey Bada$$, Bas, KYLE and more.
