Kobe Bryant’s widow slams leaked Meek Mill lyric as “disrespectful”

The rapper says he’s apologized to Vanessa Bryant privately.

Vanessa Bryant, the widow of Kobe Bryant, has called out Meek Mill over a leaked lyric which references the deceased NBA star in a way she deemed “extremely insensitive and disrespectful.”

Kobe Bryant died last January at the age of 41 when a helicopter carrying him, his 13-year-old daughter Gianna and seven others crashed in the city of Calabasas in California. The tragic accident shocked the globe, leaving the worlds of sport and entertainment in mourning of the legendary basketballer also known as the Black Mamba.

In her Instagram stories yesterday, Bryant addressed lyrics in an unreleased Meek Mill song titled “Don’t Worry (RIP Kobe).” The lines read: “This bitch I’m fuckin’ always tell me that she love but she ain’t ever showed me / Yeah, and if I ever lack, I’m goin’ out with my chopper, it be another Kobe.”

Tagging Meek on Instagram, Bryant wrote that she found the line “to be extremely insensitive and disrespectful. Period.” She added, “I am not familiar with any of your music, but I believe you can do better than this. If you are a fan, fine, there’s a better way to show your admiration for my husband. This lacks respect and tact.”

Shortly after Bryant posted the Instagram story, Meek posted a bravado-filled tweet—later deleted—that some speculated were directed towards her: “I’m going back savage in this shit… f#$k ya feelings!”

Later, the rapper said on Twitter that he had apologized to Bryant in private, and said that the earlier tweet was not directed at her. “Nothing I say on my page directed to a internet viral moment or the family of a grieving woman!” he wrote.

Meek also added in a second tweet that “I say random shit all day on social… it becomes a trend to hate on me every once in a while but I feed off that shit.”

Before the controversial lyric, Meek was also in the headlines earlier this month for an altercation he had with Tekashi 6ix9ine outside an Atlanta club. The rappers, who have been beefing for a few years now, were caught on video in a heated verbal exchange.
