Kendrick Lamar is reportedly done recording his new album

An insider claims it will feature “more rock sounds.”

A follow-up to Kendrick Lamar’s 2017 album, DAMN, is reportedly well underway.

According to Billboard’s former editorial director Bill Werde, the Compton rapper has finished recording his new album. Werde, who now writes a column for the publication, also said that KDot’s forthcoming record will feature “more rock sounds,” as XXL Mag reports.

“Did anyone not named Beyonce release better, more meaningful back-to-back albums last decade than Kendrick Lamar?” Werde wrote on Twitter. “Are you interested to know that I hear from several friends that recording on the new album may finally be done? And that he’s pulling in more rock sounds this time?”

However, Werde pointed out that while the album might be done, that doesn’t mean it will drop anytime soon. “Just because recording had hit a point where folks believe it may be finished—albums go back to the studio all the time after this point,” he added.

Speculation about Lamar’s fifth studio offering has been swirling for a while now. In December 2018, the rapper shot down rumors of a new album, telling the Los Angeles Times that he’s “merely been jotting down thoughts, ideas and questions.”

But later that same week, Polydor Records, the European distributor for Universal Music’s Interscope Records, let slip in a swiftly deleted Instagram post that Lamar was expected to put out a new album in 2019. But another year went by without any new music from Lamar.
