Kanye West to release new album ‘Donda’ this Friday

Kanye West will release his new album Donda this Friday. It will feature the song “No Child Left Behind,” which soundtracks a new Beats By Dre commercial featuring US athlete Sha’Carri Richardson.

The commercial, which premiered during Game 6 of the NBA Finals, also revealed that West’s long-awaited Donda will drop this Friday. The news was confirmed in a press release by Def Jam Records, who will release the album alongside GOOD Music.

Donda will land after an Apple Music listening event on Thursday, which is expected to be a livestream of an official listening party in Atlanta’s Mercedes-Benz Stadium. The event was previously announced by GOOD Music President Pusha T.

Rumors about Donda, named after Ye’s mother, began on Sunday when internet personality Justin LaBoy revealed West had played him and NBA player Kevin Durant the album in Las Vegas.

“Kanye played his new album for me & [Durant] last night in Vegas,” LaBoy tweeted. “The production is light-years ahead of its time, and the bars sound like he’s broke & hungry trying to get signed again. Any artist who plan on dropping soon should just push it back.”

The flames were further fanned by reports of West previewing the album at a closed-door event in a Las Vegas church. Though an official Donda tracklist has yet to be confirmed, fans in attendance claimed the album features Tyler, the Creator (who was recently filmed the studio with Kanye in a video shared by the rapper Consequence), Lil Baby and Playboi Carti.

Last July, West shared the song “Donda” as well as a rough version of the Donda tracklist that included 12 songs. Earlier this year in March, Cyhi the Prynce said that West was resuming work on the album.

Donda will mark the official follow-up to Kanye’s 2019 record, Jesus is King. Hear a snippet of Donda’s “No Child Left Behind” here:
