Oakland rapper Kamaiyah was reportedly arrested after she accidentally fired a gun during a private movie screening.
The rapper was hanging out with a group of friends at a condominium complex in the San Fernando Valley in California when the incident took place. According to TMZ, Kamaiyah and co were in the building’s movie screening room when the rapper allegedly took out a gun from her handbag and started toying with it, setting the weapon off.
Based on the video surveillance footage obtained by authorities, Kamaiyah immediately left the scene afterward. No one was hurt, TMZ reported.
Although police believe that the rapper didn’t discharge her firearm on purpose, Kamaiyah was still taken into custody earlier this week. She was charged with felony negligent discharge of a firearm and was later released on a $35,000 bond. Kamaiyah will attend a court hearing on October 1, Pitchfork reported.
Kamaiyah has been relatively quiet on the music front, but recently teased that she’s got “some good music” in store. The rapper dropped off her debut mixtape, A Good Night in the Ghetto, in 2016, and released its follow-up, Before I Wake, a year later. The rapper is scheduled to perform at the upcoming Rolling Loud Festival in her hometown of Oakland this weekend.
