Jordan Groggs of Injury Reserve dead at 32

His bandmates described him as “a loving father, life partner and friend.”

Jordan Groggs, a member of the Arizona rap trio Injury Reserve, has died. He was 32.

Groggs’ passing was confirmed earlier today via the group’s Twitter page. The cause of death, however, was not revealed. Injury Reserve also shared a GoFundMe campaign to support Groggs’ family. The rapper is survived by his partner Anna and their four children.

“REST IN POWER Jordan Alexander Groggs a loving father, life partner, and friend,” a statement on the fundraiser reads. “Groggs’ heart has touched everyone he has came across. He will live on through his family, supporters and the communities he was apart [sic] of.”

Groggs, who rapped under the moniker Stepa J Groggs, formed Injury Reserve in 2013 with fellow rapper Ritchie with a T and producer Parker Corey. In 2015, the trio released their debut mixtape, Live from the Dentist Office, which was followed by 2016’s Floss and 2017’s Drive it Like it’s Stolen. Injury Reserve eventually broke through last year with the release of their self-titled debut album.

Earlier this year, the group made their return with three songs: “Hoodwinked,” which the trio co-wrote with Gato Barbieri, “Waste Management” and “Rock n Roll.” At the end of last month, Injury Reserve collaborated with electronic duo Jockstrap on the gnarly single “Robert.”

Following the news, Injury Reserve’s frequent collaborator Aminé took to Instagram to pay a touching tribute to Groggs by sharing a series of photos of himself with the late rapper. “Rest in power to the kindest soul and one of my favorite rappers. Love you Groggs,” he wrote. They last worked together on the Injury Reserve cut “Jailbreak the Tesla.”

Injury Reserve members Ritchie and Corey also honored their late bandmate on Instagram. See their respective posts below:
