JID recruits Ansel Elgort for “Off da Zoinkys” MV

He recreates the opening scene from Robert Altman’s ‘The Long Goodbye.’

To say JID is a fan of movies is a bit of an understatement. The Atlanta rapper is a full-on film buff and he’s flaunting his knowledge in the video for “Off da Zoinkys,” starring Ansel Elgort.

In the clip, the Dreamville artist pays tribute to 1973’s The Long Goodbye, a lesser-known release from late Hollywood icon Robert Altman, with a faithful remake of the film’s opening scene. The visual stars Ansel Elgort, who dances around his apartment, feeds his cat and has a smoke. Shots of JID as a partygoer at a building across from Elgort are intercut throughout the clip.

“Ansel played Elliott Gould’s character, Philip Marlowe, a private detective,” JID wrote on Twitter. “We added our own twist to it, tell me what [you] think, even if [you] don’t fully get it lol let’s talk about it.”

“Off da Zoinkys” is the latest track from DiCaprio 2 to get the video treatment, following November’s “Off Deez.” JID also recently showed off his versatility as a vocalist on “Sandstorm,” a soulful duet with Mereba.
