JID dedicates ‘Fallon’ performance to Mac Miller

BJ the Chicago Kid and Thundercat also joined him on stage.

Last night, JID marked his TV debut on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon with a performance of “Skrawberries,” devoted to his late friend Mac Miller.

Before he launched into the J Cole-produced song, the Atlanta rapper—joined by BJ the Chicago Kid and Thundercat—reminded the crowd to “check on your strong friends.” The beat kicked in soon after and the stage lights turned red. The trio were in their most confident form: JID delivered his smooth flow while Thundercat backed him up on bass, and BJ jumped in for the soulful hook.

“Skrawberries,” which appears on JID’s recently released sophomore album, DiCaprio 2, credits Miller as a co-writer. “The way he sectioned my shit off and placed the beat on ‘Skrawberries,’ I was like, ‘Yo, you’re a genius,’” JID said in a recent interview with Billboard. “He was more than just a lyricist. He was like a genius, composer type shit.”
