Jay Electronica unveils new album, ‘A Written Testimony’

Featuring Jay-Z, Travis Scott, The-Dream and more.

Jay Electronica has unveiled his long-awaited debut album, A Written Testimony.

Notable contributors on the album are Jay-Z (longtime Jay Electronica champion and the founder of Roc Nation, Electronica’s label), Travis Scott (who features on “The Blinding”) and The-Dream (“Shiny Suit Theory” and “Ezekiel’s Wheel”).

Other collaborators include James Blake and Khruangbin, plus a murderer’s row of hip hop production talent: Swizz Beatz, Hit-Boy, The Alchemist, No ID, Young Guru and AraabMuzik, as Pitchfork reports.

Electronica announced the release of A Written Testimony in February. In a series of tweets, he explained the album was “recorded over 40 days and 40 nights,” starting from Boxing Day 2019.

The rapper was supposed to hold listening events for the record on March 12, but those sessions in Los Angeles, New Orleans and New York City were cancelled in light of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. Instead, Electronica live-streamed the album on YouTube.

A Written Testimony might be one of the most highly anticipated debut albums in rap: Fans have been waiting for a new Electronica project since his 2007 release, Act I: Eternal Sunshine (The Pledge).
