Jaden Smith has dropped a video for his latest single “Cabin Fever,” in which the rapper attempts to pursue romance during a pandemic.
In the dreamy clip, which Smith directed himself, the 22-year-old asks a girl out by a holding up a poster outside of her window. After his love interest turns him down because of COVID-19, Smith daydreams about the beach dates they enjoyed before the pandemic.
“It’s kind of like a quarantine love song,” he told MTV of the track. “You fall in love, it’s a summer thing, then everybody’s on lockdown. And you’re like, ‘Ugh, I have this girl I like, but I can’t see her.’”
“I hope people can relate to it as well, having that person that you really wanna see, but the whole world is stopping you from seeing them,” he continued.
The video also includes several references to the Black Lives Matter movement, including a drawing calling for justice for Breonna Taylor, the 26-year-old EMT who was fatally shot in a police raid on her home.
“Cabin Fever” is expected to land on Jaden’s upcoming mixtape, Cool Tape Vol 3. Watch his new video below:
