Jaden Smith drops ‘The Sunset Tapes: A Cool Tape Story’

A mixtape inspired by the sunset.

To mark the one-year anniversary of his debut album SYRE, Jaden Smith has released a new project called The Sunset Tapes: A Cool Tape Story.

The mixtape collects 11 new songs, including “Plastic,” “SOHO” and “Play This on a Mountain at Sunset.” It also features “Fallen Part 2”—the sequel to SYRE’s “Fallen”—a song that Smith wrote as an apology to his ex-girlfriend Odessa Adlon for “fuck[ing] up in [their] relationship.” But unlike his previous projects, The Sunset Tapes doesn’t feature any celebrity cameos.

“[The record] is really important to me because I’m obsessed with the sunset, and I need to watch the sunset every single day. I feel like it restarts my whole life when I watch the sunset,” Smith told Zane Lowe of Beats 1 Radio. “It’s like I’m watching the world start over, and I just need the sunset for some reason. It has this weird connection with relationships and love, almost because it’s like the sun sets, and then you’re like, ‘What do I do? Who am I gonna spend time with?”
