J Balvin has shared a video for his brand-new single, “Ma’ G.”
Balvin premiered the song at Miami’s Hard Rock Stadium on Saturday night with professional boxer Canelo Alvarez. In a press release, Balvin noted the symbolic importance of the premiere, connecting him, a “global Reggaeton ambassador,” and Alvarez, Mexico’s reigning boxing world champion, “as two titans of modern Latin culture.”
The accompanying music video is a tribute to Balvin’s Colombian roots and was filmed in the rapper’s hometown of Medellín. According to a press release, the track is the first offering from the reggaeton star’s upcoming full-length album.
“This new album is all about me,” Balvin told Rolling Stone. “I’m definitely trying to just elevate every single aspect of myself with this album. You have to compete with yourself. It’s about trying to get better and better, and being fearless about it.”
“Ma’ G” is Balvin’s first single since 2020’s “Un Día (One Day)” with Bad Bunny, Dua Lipa and Tainy, and follows his Colores album. The rapper also recently teamed up with Justin Bieber on a remix of 24kGoldn’s viral hit “Mood” and a rework of “Spicy” by Ty Dolla $ign, with Tyga and YG.
