Arizona rap trio Injury Reserve have linked up with Portland native Aminé for their latest single, “Jailbreak the Tesla.”
The single makes creative use of car sounds, like screeching brakes—which are in fact, as Stereogum reveals, a kalimba sample by Dylan Brady that sounds like a car drifting—and the beep a vehicle makes when it’s been locked. It also features verses from Aminé, who last collaborated with Injury Reserve on last year’s loosie, “Campfire.”
Ritchie With a T, one of the two rappers in the trio, explained the song’s concept to Stereogum: “That was kind of the idea of Injury Reserve—taking this thing that’s supposed to be this futuristic modern car, but then still fucking it up in this traditional aspect of customization.”
The single will likely appear on Injury Reserve’s upcoming eponymous album on Loma Vista. The trio announced their signing to the label last September.
