Hemlock Ernst—aka Samuel Herring of synth pop band Future Islands—has released a new Kenny Segal-produced single titled “Addicted Youth.”
The singer-rapper gets introspective on the track, which features a groovy bassline and bright synths. Herring delivers melodic bars ruminating on his past addictions and hardships: “I just left the parties and them 50 bags / A bottle of old crow and bargain rag / Took five or six years ’til I was walkin’ steady / But in the corners of my mind, I still find confetti.”
“Addicted Youth” is the follow-up to Herring’s September single, “Down.” Both tracks will appear on the rapper’s forthcoming debut solo rap album and Segal production, Back at the House. The record drops October 25 via Ruby Yacht.
