Public Enemy have returned with their 15th studio album,What You Gonna Do When the Grid Goes Down?.
The iconic rap collective—which currently consists of Chuck D, DJ Lord and Flavor Flav—released the record via Def Jam. It marks their first full-length for the label since 1998’s He Got Game.
The 17-track album has some serious star power, with features from Cypress Hill, Run-DMC, Ice-T and more. Nas, Rapsody, Black Thought, Jahi, YG and Questlove also contribute to the previously released “Fight the Power: Remix 2020,” while DJ Premier produced “State of the Union (STFU).”
What You Gonna Do When the Grid Goes Down? is Public Enemy’s first full-length since 2017’s Nothing is Quick in the Desert. Earlier this year, they released Loud is Not Enough under the moniker Public Enemy Radio.
Public Enemy made headlines in March when they appeared to have fired Flavor Flav over a dispute concerning a Bernie Sanders rally. A month later, they revealed that the supposed firing was in fact an April Fool’s joke as part of a promotional plan for the aforementioned Public Enemy Radio project.
