Prior to his passing last October, MF DOOM collaborated with Czarface on a new joint album called Super What?. Now, that record has been released.
Czarface—the trio of 7L, Esoteric and Wu-Tang Clan’s Inspectah Deck—announced Super What? earlier this week and revealed the project was initially set for release last April.
“When COVID-19 struck and the world stopped, we chose to pull it, focus on family, and fine tune a few elements on it,” they wrote on Instagram. “What you’ll be hearing was finalized, mixed & mastered in the summer of 2020, and it’s our honor and privilege to share it with you Friday.”
Super What? marks the second time that DOOM joined forces with Czarface. The enigmatic rapper and supergroup released their first joint offering, Czarface Meets Metal Face, in 2018.
Super What? is also DOOM’s first posthumous project. Last December, DOOM’s wife revealed on Instagram that he had died on October 31.
“I speak for everyone involved when I say we were incredibly fortunate to have collaborated with DOOM,” Czarface added in their post. “He was a one-of-a-kind, never-to-be-duplicated emcee, producer, and visionary. We wish peace and healing to his family, friends and everyone touched by the gifts he shared with the planet. MF DOOM FOREVER.”
