CJ Fly has released The Way I H(ear) it, Vol 1, the first installment of his new instrumental mixtape series.
The project features eight instrumental tracks and was a result of the rapper’s efforts to learn how to produce his own beats while in coronavirus-induced lockdown. “When the lockdown started, I challenged myself to learn how to produce my own beats and here I am releasing my first tape,” he wrote on Instagram.
“I have to admit, this is a new realm of music for me because you all know me as a rapper and I’m super nervous about what everyone will think,” CJ added. “But nonetheless, I’m confident everyone will love it.”
The Brooklyn rapper also noted that The Way I H(ear) it, Vol 1 is just the first of a series. “I will be dropping more volumes as the year progresses, so this is only the first of many project[s] you’ll hear from me this year.”
CJ also thanked Royce Da 5’9” for inspiring him to pursue his “goal of being a producer” in a separate post. The rapper also gave shoutouts to producers such as CY Frye, Nate “NV” Eaton and Dreamlife Beats, as well as Phony Ppl’s Elbee Thrie.
Last year, CJ released the album Rudebwoy, which featured collaborations with Joey Bada$$, Statik Selektah, Chuck Strangers, Haile Supreme and more. Fellow Pro Era member Nyck Caution released his debut solo album Anywhere But Here earlier this month.
