Clever, Post Malone rework Juice WRLD’s “Life’s a Mess”

“Life’s a Mess II” appears on Clever’s forthcoming album, ‘Crazy.’

Alabama rapper Clever and Post Malone have released their take on the late Juice WRLD’s “Life’s a Mess,” from the rapper’s posthumous album Legends Never Die.

“Life’s a Mess II” swaps out verses from the original song’s featured artist, pop singer Halsey, for brand-new bars by Clever and Malone. On the rework, the rappers trade emotional lines about love: “Don’t hurt the heart that loves you / Sometimes they just want what they can’t have, forbidden fruit / But the one that deserves your love will never pick and choose / There was once a hole in my heart, that hole was hurting.”

“It speaks on relationships, when love just doesn’t click,” he said of the song in a statement. “I stayed on this concept. I’m [a] newcomer, so I was doing everything I could to stand out between these two giants.”

“Life’s a Mess II” will appear on Clever’s forthcoming debut album, Crazy. “My music is meant to be personal, but beautiful at the same time,” Clever explained. “I’m aiming for a provocative, sultry, and sexy vibe. It’s melodic hip hop, but there’s some trap soul in there. I just want to keep this angelic kind of darkness.”
