Freddie Gibbs, Madlib drop “Bandana,” featuring Assassin

The title track of their forthcoming joint album.

Freddie Gibbs and Madlib announced their reunion with “Flat Tummy Tea” a few weeks ago, and now they’ve dropped another new song. This time, they’ve invited dancehall/hip hop artist Assassin to jump on “Bandana,” the title track of their forthcoming joint album.

Gibbs is in his element, doling out smooth street-storytelling over Madlib’s hypnotic beat that foregrounds wordless vocal loops. Assassin—whose patois-heavy delivery you might recall from Kendrick Lamar’s “The Blacker the Berry” and Kanye West’s “I’m In it”—punctuates Gibbs’ bars with ad libs and shouts, waiting to deliver his own tumbling verse.
