Emo rap lives: ILoveMakonnen drops Lil Peep, Fall Out Boy collab

The two rappers recorded “I’ve Been Waiting” in 2017.

The late Lil Peep’s emo rap movement lives on, partly thanks to this new song: “I’ve Been Waiting,” with ILoveMakonnen and Fall Out Boy.

The single is equal parts angst and fun, as the rappers and Fall Out Boy’s Patrick Stump air heartbroken lyrics over a light, foot-tapping tune.

Peep sings the chorus: “Break my heart but don’t tell me I’m not doin’ fine / ’Cause I’ll do it fine / Let me go, I’m spending time / Not doin’ fine but I’ll do it fine.”

Peep and ILoveMakonnen worked on “I’ve Been Waiting” and the XXXTentacion-featuring “Falling Down” (originally “Sunlight on Your Skin”) together in 2017. According to Rolling Stone, ILoveMakonnen estimates there are about ten or 12 other joint songs completed and ready for inclusion in a bigger project.

If only Peep were alive to see this song come to fruition—he told XXL Mag in 2017, “One of my favorite hip hop artists is [ILoveMakonnen]. One of my favorite bands is Fall Out Boy. You put those two together and that’s Lil Peep.”
