Eminem has surprised fans with a brand-new full-length album, Music to be Murdered By. It’s the follow-up to 2018’s Kamikaze, which was also released without prior announcement.
The new record features 20 tracks, and clocks in at just over an hour long. The late Juice WRLD, who passed last December, appears on the track “Godzilla.” Other guest artists include rappers Young MA, Anderson .Paak and Black Thought of The Roots, as well as singers Ed Sheeran and Skylar Grey.
Music to be Murdered By’s alternative cover art, which features Slim Shady wearing a fedora while posing with an axe, is a homage to director Alfred Hitchcock’s 1958 album of the same name. The LP also features samples of Hitchcock’s work, according to Pitchfork.
In the accompanying video for “Darkness,” directed by James Larese, Marshall Mathers performs the introspective track in a claustrophobic room while bathed in blue light. The clip also features violent scenes that re-enact the 2017 Las Vegas Strip shooting.
The new album follows a relatively quiet 2019 for Eminem, who only dropped a handful of collabs with Fat Joe, Conway the Machine and Logic. The rapper, however, did make headlines for his ongoing feud with Nick Cannon.
