Eminem is capping off 2020 the same way he started the year—with another surprise release.
The rapper has returned with a deluxe edition of his latest album, Music to Be Murdered By. Titled Music to Be Murdered By – Side B, the expanded record arrives exactly 11 months after the original release in January, adding a whopping 16 new songs to the mix. The new edition features collaborations with Dr Dre (on “Guns Blazing” with Sly Pyper), Ty Dolla $ign (“Favorite Bitch”), Dr Premier (“Book of Rhymes”) and Skylar Grey (“Leaving Heaven”).
Side B dropped alongside a Cole Bennett-directed video for “GNAT.” In the clip, the rapper recaps the events of 2020, donning a bright yellow hazmat suit as bats flutter around him. “They say these bars are like COVID / You get ’em right off the bat / Infected with SARS and Corona / Like you took a bite off of that,” Em spits.
After Music to Be Murdered By was released, it sparked backlash for lyrics that made light of two tragedies from 2017, including the bombing incident at Ariana Grande’s concert in Manchester.
Eminem later defended the controversial tracks, saying the album “was not made for the squeamish.” He added, “If you are easily offended or unnerved at the screams of bloody murder, this may not be the collection for you.”
Earlier this month, the rapper teamed up with comedian Pete Davidson for a festive remake of “Stan” for Saturday Night Live.
