It’s been almost a year since EarthGang premiered “Up” on the YouTube live performance series COLORS, and they have finally released the studio version of the song.
Over a chaotic, self-produced beat, the Atlanta duo tackle subjects like artistic freedom and the price of fame. Doctur Dot also references Labelle’s 1974 classic “Lady Marmalade” on his verse: “My whip has a certain je ne sais quoi / Pull up on your bitch like, ‘Excuse my French’ / Fuck what you thought / Voulez-vous coucher avec moi ce soir? / Ce-soir, I take no days off.”
“Up” previews EarthGang’s forthcoming album, MirrorLand, which is scheduled to arrive in September. The Dreamville act previously contributed to “Sacrifices” with J Cole, Smino and Saba, from Revenge of the Dreamers III, as well as Samm Henshaw’s “Church.”
