Drake has finally announced his new album, Certified Lover Boy, with its first single “Laugh Now Cry Later.”
The song was produced by Rogét Chahayed, Yung Exclusive, Cardo and GRy, and features a cameo from Lil Durk. On the laid-back track, Drizzy boasts about living in the moment and takes a jab at his naysayers. “Tired of beefin’ you bums, you can’t even pay me enough to react,” he spits. “Been wakin’ up in the crib and sometimes I don’t even know where I’m at / Please don’t play that n***a songs in this party, I can’t even listen to that.”
Lil Durk hops on the second half, channeling the same carefree energy on his own verse: “I’m in the trenches, relax / Can you not play that li’l boy in the club? ’Cause we do not listen to rats / We in Atlanta, I buy her a wig, she tellin’ me Tae is the best.”
The track dropped alongside a comedic, star-studded visual filmed at the Nike World Headquarters in Beaverton, Oregon. It features Drizzy shooting hoops with Kevin Durant, playing football with NFL stars Odell Beckham Jr and Marshawn Lynch, and riding jet skis with Lil Durk. At one point, Drake gets tackled by Lynch, who tells him to get the “fuck off the block.”
“Laugh Now Cry Later” arrives just months after the release of Drake’s surprise mixtape, Dark Lane Demo Tapes, which included his April track “Toosie Slide.” In between those releases, the rapper busied himself with a handful of collaborations with DJ Khaled, Popcaan and Headie One.
