Doja Cat contracts coronavirus after saying she “wasn’t scared” of it

In March, the rapper had mocked others for taking the virus seriously.

In a recent interview with Capital Xtra, Doja Cat revealed she tested positive for the novel coronavirus after downplaying the pandemic and its threats on social media earlier this year.

During the radio show, Doja said that she had experienced symptoms of COVID-19 for several days, though she has now recovered. The rapper admitted she wasn’t sure how she got sick, but believed she contracted the virus after ordering food from the delivery service app Postmates.

“I got COVID. Honestly, I don’t know how this happens but I guess I ordered something off of Postmates and I don’t know how I got it but I got it,” she explained. “I’m okay now. It was a four-day symptom freakout but I’m fine now.”

Earlier in March, the rapper made light of the pandemic and mocked fans who took the virus seriously. “I’m not scared of a coronavirus or the motherfucking beer version of that shit,” she declared during an Instagram Live session, referencing the Mexican lager Corona Extra

“I’m gonna get corona and then I’m gonna get a Corona [beer], ’cause I don’t give a fuck about corona, bitch,” she continued. “It’s a flu! I’m not scared. Y’all are pussy, period. You just take some Mucinex and drink water and tea and sleep.”

In May, Doja responded to allegations of her participation in racist chatrooms, as well as the resurfacing of a controversial song she released in 2015. In a now-deleted statement, the rapper denied being “involved in any racist conversations” and expressed her regret over her offensive lyrics.

“I understand my influence and impact and I’m taking this all very seriously. I love you all and I’m sorry for upsetting or hurting any of you,” she said.

In June, Doja dropped “Unisex Freestyle,” a song she originally recorded in 2018. Earlier this month, she released collaborations with City Girls and Anne-Marie.
