DMX spotted in the studio with Griselda Records

Could the follow-up to ‘Redemption of the Beast’ be underway?

DMX is reportedly working on new music after he was recently spotted back in the studio.

According to HotNewHipHop, Westside Gunn had shared on Twitter a photo of himself and his fellow Griselda Records labelmates in the studio with DMX. He captioned the photo, which had originally been posted by Ruff Ryders’ Cyncere Jones: “Conway, Westside & Benny put in that work last night for upcoming DMX x Griselda Boys banger.”

Other details of the collaboration have yet to be revealed, though fans speculate that it might land on the long-awaited follow-up to DMX’s last album, 2015’s Redemption of the Beast.

Earlier in the year, producer-rapper Swizz Beatz revealed that DMX was inspired to return to music after his July Verzuz battle with Snoop Dogg. “We let [DMX] feel as great as he is, and once he got in that room, he was in a better space,” Swizz told Billboard. We went straight from that Verzuz into working on his new album. That’s all people need sometimes—that show of love.”

In January 2019, DMX was finally released from prison after spending a year behind bars for tax fraud. The rapper was arrested on charges that he withheld $1.7 million in taxes over five years, and pled guilty to one count of tax fraud in November 2017.

In October 2019, DMX canceled shows in order to check into a rehab facility. His reps released a statement saying the rapper was committed to “putting family and sobriety first.”
