DJ Shadow issues warning on “Urgent, Important, Please Read”

The new track features Rockwell Knuckles, Tef Poe and Daemon.

DJ Shadow has recruited rappers Rockwell Knuckles, Tef Poe and Daemon for “Urgent, Important, Please Read,” the latest release off his forthcoming album, Our Pathetic Age.

On the cautionary track, the rappers drop fiery bars that criticize society’s reliance on social media and technology. “Everyone wants to feel in control. In the same breath, they wanna pay top dollar to be told what they like and what they don’t. So it seems to me, this confusion is a human error. We keep allowing this to grow, the machines are gonna win,” they warn on the spoken-word chorus.

“Despite the title, Our Pathetic Age is a hopeful, vibrant album,” Shadow said in a previous press statement. “As an artist, I feel an obligation to interpret the world around me, and there’s no denying that these are times fraught with angst and pain. Yet, there is always light in darkness, and that’s the energy I have sought to harness.”

Shadow’s forthcoming double-album Our Pathetic Age will also include “Rosie” and the De la Soul-assisted “Rocket Fuel.” The record arrives November 15 via Mass Appeal Records.
