DJ Muggs shares “The Chosen One” from new solo album

The Cypress Hill producer will release ‘Dies Occidendum’ in March.

Cypress Hill producer DJ Muggs has announced his new solo album, Dies Occidendum with chilling new single “The Chosen One.”

The three-minute instrumental of spooky keys, haunting vocals and horror movie snippets is one of ten tracks on Dies Occidendum, which will be his first release on Sacred Bones Records.

Though he’s best known for his work with Cypress Hill, Muggs has lent his production talents to several hip hop acts over the years and crafted a sizable solo discography. Last year, he produced songs on Westside Gunn’s Pray For Paris, Action Bronson’s Only For Dolphins and more. He also dropped the solo project Winter.

The producer has also dropped music under several different monikers, including the hardcore hip hop persona, Soul Assassins, which spawned 2018’s Soul Assassins: Dia del Asesinato. For Dies Occidendum, which Muggs described as “the soundtrack to a film that does not yet exist,” he will return to one of his older monikers: DJ Muggs the Black Goat.

Dies Occidendum is due out March 12. Listen to its first offering, “The Chosen One,” below:
