News reports around the untimely death of Juice WRLD have revealed that law enforcement was searching the rapper’s plane for contraband shortly before he suffered a seizure.
The rapper born Jarad Anthony Higgins died on Sunday (December 8). According to the New York Times, law enforcement officials and agents had been waiting for Higgins to arrive at Chicago’s Midway airport because they had “received information from a federal task force” that the plane ferrying the musician was transporting contraband.
The private jet, which departed from Van Nuys, California, was carrying “approximately 70 pounds of marijuana in 41 vacuum-sealed bags; six bottles of liquid prescription codeine cough syrup; and three firearms,” the authorities told NYT.
It was during the search that the rapper went into convulsions and then cardiac arrest. Higgins was given Narcan, a drug administered when opioid overdose is suspected, and rushed to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead.
When asked about Higgins’ medical history and drug usage, his girlfriend, who was also at the scene, told police that the rapper takes the painkiller Percocet and “has a drug problem,” the Chicago Tribune reported. The Tribune added that no drug charges have been filed yet and investigations are currently still ongoing.
According to Complex, an autopsy was performed yesterday but additional tests need to be completed in order to confirm Higgins’ cause of death.
